Fabrication of a fixed prosthesis is taught as a part of curriculum in BDS, but most of the students are not trained enough to actually execute in their practice and refer such cases to a prosthodontist. However, by taking up a course in fixed prosthodontics, anyone can understand the science behind what goes in the making of a good prosthesis.
This course is a comprehensive one which includes every type of fixed prosthesis there is including metal ceramic bridges, post and core, laminates, inlay and onlay bonded prosthesis. We were taught the importance of diagnostic models and treatment planning, which included the selection of abutment and criteria for crown lengthening.
The course was led an excellent team of academicians well-known in the field of Prosthodontics. The course conductor Dr. Sunita was also very helpful and supportive throughout the course. Our mentor Dr. Kalyan was a very experienced clinician and it was great to be guided by him. He was very personable and even showed us his detailed documented cases.
Efforts were put in that the program of 8 days wasn’t repetitive and we learned new things every single day. I am proud to say that I have done over 20 cases since the completion of the course with 100% success.
