I was one of the students who have completed their BDS during the pandemic. My practical and clinical knowledge was really lacking. To continue my career in dentistry, I decided to join General Dentistry course at Dr. Sachdeva’s dental institute, Ashok Vihar.
It was truly an enriching experience and has completely boosted my confidence many folds. It is highly crucial that we as clinicians be well-versed with the concepts of general dentistry. This course certainly required hard work, determination and discipline, which was made possible with the motivation of our mentor, Dr. Rajat Sachdeva. The rationale and reasoning behind everything we had to do became much clearer as I went along and certainly once I finished. It was all finally worth it.
The course of the subject includes comprehensive lectures of the basics followed by hands-on training on live patients. Since we were a group of 25 students per course, complete focus was on each one of us. Our progress was closely monitored and we were encouraged to give our best. We even had international students in our group, so the standards were high with state-of-the-art equipment and instruments.
The curriculum was divided into 8 modules wherein each aspect of dentistry was covered including Endodontics, Prosthetic and Aesthetic Dentistry, Oral Surgery, Periodontics and Pedodontics.
I have learnt RCTs using apex locator, post and core, extractions, impactions, flaps, splinting of teeth, management of children, direct and indirect pulp capping, zoom whitening procedures and much more. The quality of education we received was of a VERY high standard! The depth of knowledge, range of skills and especially the amount of hands on clinical experience in all aspects of clinical dentistry we received at Dr. Sachdeva’s dental institute surely surpasses my 4 years of graduation.
I would also like to specially thank our mentor Dr. Rajat Sachdeva to have helped us out through this journey. He is not only an excellent clinician but a brilliant teacher who treats his students as his own. He really puts in extra effort so that we become better dentists and improve the quality of our work.
Our practice is completely patient oriented and it is very important we build trust in them. While pursuing this course, I not only learnt excellent clinical skills, but I also learnt how to conduct myself with the patients and how to alleviate their doubts and fears.
